How to hibernate an desktop instance?

Hibernation is supported for the latest Ubuntu 18.04 AMI, version x86_64-18.04lts-200112-200329. Please review this page for background information on EC2 instance hibernation. Specifically please note the instance types that support hibernation.

Here are a few additional notes:

• Add additional disk space, which is greater than the size of RAM. Otherwise hibernation will fail
• Select "hibernation" option and encrypting the root volume when you launch the instance.
• Sessions over VNC protocol are reliable for hibernation.
